FAQ Answer
Payments and Fiat Transfers
What happens if the buyer sends the wrong payment amount?
If the buyer sends too little, too much or the wrong currency, do not release the cryptocurrency immediately. Document the discrepancy and resolve it inside the order or through a dispute.
Answer
If the buyer sends an amount that does not match the order, the seller should keep the cryptocurrency in escrow until the discrepancy is resolved. The agreed fiat amount, currency and cryptocurrency quantity are recorded in the order and should not be changed informally.
The correct response depends on the error:
- Underpayment: Confirm the amount received and notify the buyer inside the trade. Do not release the cryptocurrency while part of the payment is missing. Any additional transfer must follow the active order, use the agreed payment method and come from the authorized buyer.
- Overpayment: Do not send extra cryptocurrency or return the difference to another account supplied through chat. Record the amount received and request assistance before making a separate refund.
- Wrong currency: Treat the payment as inconsistent with the order. Conversion rates and banking fees can change the effective amount, so do not assume the transfer is equivalent without a documented resolution.
- Split payment: Verify every transfer, sender name and transaction reference. Multiple transfers can complicate payment verification and dispute evidence.
When an incorrect payment arrives:
- Capture the bank or payment-service record.
- Inform the buyer through the order chat.
- Keep the cryptocurrency in escrow.
- Do not modify the crypto amount outside the order.
- Open a dispute or contact support if the issue cannot be resolved safely.
Never release the cryptocurrency merely because the buyer promises to correct the amount later. Likewise, do not cancel an order after receiving money without following the appropriate resolution process. Cancellation could return the cryptocurrency while leaving the fiat payment unresolved.
